Learn Well First 5 San Diego
Learn Well San Diego is an initiative for the San Diego County region that supports sustainable development of quality early learning and care programs and aims to support providers in the form of technical assistance, instructional support, coaching and ongoing professional development. The Learn Well initiative promotes quality for programs and learning environments for children birth to 5 years of age. The initiative aligns with the goals of Quality Counts California (QCC), San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and First 5 San Diego to ensure that children in the County of San Diego thrive in their early learning settings and succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
Through the Learn Well initiative, early education programs are enriched and provided opportunities that support development, sustainment and creation of quality programming by providing early education centers and providers with access to services that are customized and tailored to target and meet their needs.
The Learn Well initiative works to achieve the following:
- Engages providers to support children 0-5 in programs that promote healthy eating and active living through the "HEAL Program." The "HEAL Program" offers support in the areas of self-care, nutrition classes and promotes the importance of active living through classes and informational sessions.
- Supports caregivers working with children 0-5 with financial stipends for their participation in San Diego Quality Preschool Initiative (SDQPI). By participating in SDQPI caregivers are provided individual coaching support, professional development opportunities, access to the most current information in the field and the ability to network with colleagues.
- Supports the infrastructure of early childcare education throughout San Diego by providing vision and financial assistance to enrich quality programming.
